Listening and spelling challenge

Often called a “Dictée” in French, in our listening and spelling challenge, the aim is to write out exactly what you hear with as little spelling and grammatical mistakes as possible. This is a great exercise to practice your spelling in French as not everything is spelt as it sounds, and grammar can significantly affect the spelling of words. Think you can complete a challenge without any mistakes? Go to our Instagram to try it out.

Why should you learn French?

There are many reasons as to why learning a new language is extremely beneficial, even if you are only a novice. As well as being a fun and engaging activity, you are rewarded with a very useful skill which can come in handy in many situations.

Travel

Over 275 million people around the world speak French, and it is expected to be the most spoken language in the world by 2050 which makes it an especially interesting language to learn now! French is of course spoken in France, but don’t forget about overseas French territories such as the Dominican Republican, the 29 countries in Africa which speak French as their first language as well as parts of Canada. Being able to speak French will give you access to many more cultures and people to interact with! Find all the best places to visit in your travels by engaging with locals and not having to rely on staying in tourist hot spots.

Work

In today’s globalised world, regardless of your profession or the sector you work in, you are likely to interact with people from abroad or who do not have the same first language as you; this could be a colleague, client or even your employer. Learning an additional language makes you attractive to employers as you won’t be limited to only communicating in your mother tongue. Even if you are in school now and not yet working, by starting early you will open yourself up to great opportunities.

Health

Even if you don’t plan on using French in your travels or at work, studies have shown that learning a second language improves brain function, regardless of how old you are or when you start. This includes improved concentration, creativity, memory and ability to multitask. These are all great ways to improve the day to day function of your brain but also keep your brain healthy as you age, and who wouldn’t want that!

It’s up to you now!

There is never a bad time to study French, whether you are a complete novice, a teenager or an adult, everyone can benefit, and anyone can learn. With FrenchSoEasy’s free social media content, there is no excuse not to start today!
